URBAN YOUTH

Brief

Exploring street portraiture in order to capture a truthful image around a set target audience. We had to choose an audience type and take a series of images before they were edited down into our final choices. The options were urban youth, mature workforce and real cornwall.

Solution

I decided to choose urban youth; and through my final selected images, hoped to portray the view that people commonly perceive of youth today. In the first image, through the use of silhouette I wanted to convey the faceless view that older generations can sometimes have of youth today, tarnishing everyone who looks or dresses a certain way as intimidating and scary. Not being able to see the face stops you from being able to emotionally connect with the subject the same way people don't when you pass them in the street during the late hours. Keeping to the theme of distorted views, the second and third image are inspired by urban street art, and graffiti artists such as Banksy. I was able to achieve this black and white graffitied look through experimenting on Photoshop.
